Sunday, Sunday, Sunday and Saturday…
Ah, summer is here.
The kids are out playing, it’s light out until almost nine o’clock at night and I’m sitting still doing nothing at all and I’m still sweating.
There is one thing that occupanies summer that I enjoy the most, beyond boggling at the fact that women’s fashions seem to dictate summer attire must get small and smaller.
That one thing is:Â Airshows.
For those who migrated from my old .Mac Blog know that I’ve posted more than a few posts and pictures about B-17 Rides and the National Heritage Aviation Festival up in New Hampshire in the past.
So, with the National Guard Airshow filling Quonset Point this weekend it brings back fond memories, first of my father organzing old Airshows at Quonset Point then walking from Pete C’s first apartment all the way to the Tarmac and back and lastly getting a call from my mom asking if I knew our call center had been evacuated the night before.
Airshows are great places to get pictures you wouldn’t get anywhere else. Thankfully I had backed up a lot of my Airshow shots so those will be migrated to the Photoblog soon. And, this year I’ve got my Telephoto, too. Muaahahaha.
Looking at the line up, I’m not going to expect much, just like last year. There’s only so many acts you can get on the whole $10-donation to park-schtick. I wouldn’t mind paying $25 to see a good show.
It’s unfortunate the Collings Foundation B-17, B-24, B-25 are on the opposite Coast right now.
What I can recommend is a few things: Black Daggers/Red Devils Parachute Team, the F-18 doing laps (I’ll assume they didn’t get the waivers to do any aerobatic feats, just like the Aviation Festival, to have it and the Warthog do some nice tricks) and last but not least The Thunderbirds.
Sure, the Shockwave Truck is pretty fun too, albeit a little “didn’t you do that last year?”-syndrome.
I will recommend comfortable walking shoes, lotsa of sunblock, sunglasses, hats, cameras and a folding seat to sit underneath one of the National Guard Planes and bring lots of money.
Here’s hope the static displays out number the Food Vendors…
