Iron Man Mini Review…

iron-man-mini-review

Go. See. This. Movie. Now.

Wow.

Iron Man in a nutshell

Basically, Bruce Wayne, minus the parents dying is overseas showing off the new weapons systems his company created when his convoy is attacked, he’s wounded by his own company’s weapon and then saved by the enemy so then he can build them another one.

And, with the help of another captive he builds a suit of armor to get him out of captivity and home again only to turn over a new leaf and build possibly one of the best looking live action Iron Man armors I’ve ever seen.

I’ve ruined nothing of the movie for you since this story arc was written back in the 60’s with the Viet Cong being the antagonists instead. This is a movie that while it’s based on the comic book of the same name is not a comic adaptation it is instead a movie about what if Howard Hughes actually did live in the Twentieth Century and built a portable suit of armor.

From casting to script to SFX this movie is nigh perfect. And, the universe it’s creating via the end credit scene is something every comic book fan has been dreaming of. We have gotten our Ultimates and it’s up there on the widescreen as it should be.

The one, and only bad thing I can think of about this movie is the fact that : The action is almost too quick and some of the shots aren’t centered. I dunno if the centering problem was done purpose so it didn’t look like an action movie.

The crowd we saw it with was large so I don’t foresee GTA being a problem. The only problem was too many frackin’ kids. Does PG-13 mean anything anymore? And, mind you, this movie wasn’t PG-13 in spots it was downright R.

Marvel Studios did good. This is how all their movies should be. Let’s hope for no more Spider-Man 3s or X3s. Bring on Iron Man 2.

DMZ…

dmz

I’ve mentioned DMZ before and after reading the first two trade paperbacks (thank you Rah-Coco Comics and Collectables), I’d have to say, if you missed Transmetropolitan then DMZ is for you. Check out the first issue here in PDF Format.

DMZ is from DC’s Vertigo Line which after losing both Transmet and Y The Last Man still appears to be pumping out good titles for us 30+ fan base

DMZ is written by Brian Wood and art by Riccardo Burchielli. And, at points harkens back to Wood’s Indy Hit Channel Zero. It details the adventures of a photo journalist’s assistant being thrown into a civil war in the middle of Manhattan. The use of Manhattan and New York as a whole may feel like it’s too soon, but, it’s more plausible

After 12 issues, I wouldn’t mind seeing this be adapted for HBO. While Y The Last Man has gone the motion picture route, DMZ would be a good 13 episode per season fit for the struggling HBO.

The series is only up to issue 30 right now so either grab the trades now or wait for the hard covers (along the lines of the Absolute Authority/Planetary editions would be nice).

Iron Man Clips…

iron-man-clips

Charles on 94 HJY was commenting on how the geeks are going nuts over this movie and I have to agree with him. It looks so much better than Hulk.

Also, check out these clips: Tony, Flying and Cell Phones, Iron Man VS. Raptors and Iron Man Suit Origins.
