Time to try and solidify some days for meet ups.
With the first week starting so late, I’d like to try and get a meet up for Providence on the 1st at Reflections Cafe. The Cafe’s Menu. 530pm-6pm start time and end time whenever they throw us out or we get sick of each other.
Stickers, surge protector will be on hand.
With Tuesdays being the Poet’s Night, Aquidneck taking Wends, I think Providence can handle Thursday. As for what meet ups happen after the 1st, we can all talk about that on the 1st.
Stickers are being sent out tomorrow so the URI Wrimos will have them in time for their meet up.
Comments, Suggestions, feel free to throw them out! :)Â
NaNoWrimo is t-minus 13 days to go!
The NaNoWrimo Boards are now working perfectly, most if not all the kinks have been worked out so if you’ve been staying away from them due to the snail’s pace, feel free to sign up now.
If anyone wants to friend me, username is rkbentley.
Judging from the traffic on the Rhode Island Board looks to be a good amount of returning people and new peeps.
Unlike last year I didn’t have a ton of paid time off to take so I managed to get the week of Thanksgiving off (except Black Friday, blech!) so that will offset the black hole known as Thanksgiving.
A few recommondations to people who are doing this either for the first time or repeat offenders:
1. Swing by a few of the meet ups. Meet your fellow writers. It helps to see other people write and get the creative juices flowing.
2. Grab a writing buddy for Word War. This will guarantee you’ll get a swift kick to the head when your behind.
3. Download the NaNoWrimo Report Card so you can keep track of when you’ll end. If you manage to get done before Thanksgiving consider yourself lucky.
4. Auto-Save is your friend. Time to open up whatever App you’re using and find the Auto Save Option and turn it on now.
4b. Go out and buy a nice flash drive, nothing too big or nothing too cheap. The idea is back up yer shit. God forbid you open up your laptop and it sputers into the grave.
That’s about it for now…
(x-posted to my blog, NaNo Board)
So with 3 weeks to go I think it’s time to start thinking about meet ups.
This year, the Aquidneck Wrimos can rejoice we have Aquidneck ML in the returning form of Tapit1.
As for Providence Meet Ups, I’ll put my vote in for Reflections so long as we miss the knitters and the poets.
As for Warwick/E. Greenwich/Cranston Meet Ups, if there’s a need for them (this is your cue Warwickian/Cranstonian Wrimos to shout out), I’ll put in my vote Panera (2 on RTE 2/Garden City)/Borders (Garden City).
Floating Saturdays at Reflections?
NaNoWrimo will be disabling sign ins until October 1st and then sign ups will begin in.
Yes, you have Five Weeks to prep, Wrimos.
Thankfully, there is no Halo 2 or WoW this year. There is COD4 and Halo 3, but I don’t those will disrupt things too much.
Good thing is I’m back to my 8-430pm schedule so meet ups won’t be a problem. I’d like to check out the Panera on RTE 2 across from Comp USA, never been inside and may be a good place for a Warwick Meet Up.
I think, I going to go with the whole Mad Max theme this year. As for a name and an icon, I don’t have a clue yet.
As for Bread, Milk and Blood, starting Oct 1st I’ll go back in and begin to edit it. It would be nice to finish it. Either send out query letters or go the whole Lulu route.
Unlike my Serenity/Firefly 2005 NaNoWrimo Novel entitled Leaves on the Wind, I won’t be posting the rest of BMB online.
I’m going to be finishing the novel and will be sending out query letters once I’m ready. One of my co-workers whose read one of my other scripts thought the title was disgusting (in a good way), so that’s a step in the right direction right there.
With NaNoWrimo behind us it’s time to refocus on Welcome to Gehma.
I spent sometime during the last few NaNoWrimo Write Ins going over my 2004 NaNoWrimo Novel called Gehma: A Rider’s Tale that Welcome to Gehma is based on and I’ve been hacking away at the overview chapters and adding more to the already 55k word count.
Looking back on the novel there is no hook in the beginning of the novel, it’s a lot of cold, info dumping that doesn’t need to be there. Granted some of it needs to be there to explain things but taking a page from my screenwriting misadventures: Hook them in the first 5 pages.
I think once I get some of the info dump narrowed down I have a scene that should hook people.
I’ll be seeing Paul C today, if he has any Gehma images I can pass along you will be the first to know.
Also, any of the inner circle of friends/editors feel like giving the first thirty-nine pages a once over with their red pens are more than welcome to tear it apart.
PS: For those Whovians in the USA: The Doctor Who Original Television Soundtrack CD is worth the money.

Just to give everyone a heads up, NaNoWrimo pictures (circa 2004, 2006) from Rhode Island are now being posted on my Photoblog and new pictures will be uploaded daily.
Looks like pictures will be lasting until Christmas.
PDF File of the first three chapters of Bread, Milk and Blood will be forthcoming…
The Last Providence Meet Up will be at Reflections tomorrow evening (11/29/06). (4pmish (for the early birds) to 11pm)
The good luck vibes will be in full force.
And, remember, cave into peer pressure and call in sick tomorrow.
…let’s see we’ve witnessed a great many things:
1. Good ole boys at Panera.
2. An Avon Lady Meet Up at Panera.
3. Two people signing an argument.
4. Poetry People talking about Muppets enjoying fisting.
5. Something on Ice.
6. Coffee drinkers from central casting.
7. Kids from the Something on Ice on a Sunday Night in a bar.
8. Knitters.
9. Smelling like a Barista when you get home.
And, finally, last but not least:
10. Playing Christmas Music during the first week of November.

For those who don’t frequent the Rhode Island Message Boards, the Rhode Island NaNoWrimo TGIO (Thank God It’s Over) Partay is this Saturday at Blake’s Tavern from 6pm - 10pm.
Personally, I’m going to get the steak and the Oreo Cake.
Hmmmmm.
Cake!
I’ll be cross posting this in a moment.
50,326k! Woot!
The story is by no means done! Which is good. I feel something is here and I’ll be printing out pages for editors soon.
Also, make sure to mark down: Script Frenzy website. Thank God it’s in June 2007.
This also give me a great excuse to spew forth useless tidbits about screenwriting for people who are interested in screenwriting.
Trust me, screenwriting and writing a novel, two different horses, screenwriting is the pony, novel writing is Wildfire.
Now, onward and upward.
P.S.: Slither and Feast are excellent movies to watch if you’re a horror fan. Slither’s extras are just a blast.
