Damn.
After a week off, Doctor Who comes back with a vengeance in an episode labeled 42 that roughly takes about 40minutes to play out.
This episode was more inline with The Satan Pit/Impossible Planet/Girl In Fireplace and that’s what makes this episode stand out above all the rest so far.
British Sci-Fi Space Shows kicks American Sci-Fi Space Shows to the curb.
The airlock moment and once you see it, just, wow.
And, next weeks looks like a dooooozzzzy!
Now, as for Mister Saxon plot lines that have been arising as of late, great to see more of those ongoing plots…
Cat Nuns with Guns, Face of Bo and New New New York…

While Runaway Bride had moments of greatness that were dragged down by a horrible looking villain, Smith and Jones was the exact opposite, thankfully.
Um.
If this little tidbit is true.
Then kick ass.
It also cleans up all the mess from the movie in ‘96 which after watching it again, didn’t suck as bad as it could have.
So 13 episodes…
…half of them of them good. Two really bad episodes and good two hour season finale. Warren Ellis shouldn’t worry about getting depressed about someone writing in his vein, he should be writing for this show.
So.
The Runaway Bride on Christmas Day.
My first thought was, eh. It was no Christmas Invasion.
The Runaway Bride Character was perfect.
The Doctor coming slowly to terms with departure of Rose was perfect.
The Villain just plain out sucked, imho.
The guys from last year were good because they looked scary, acted scary and didn’t need a magic helper for their deeds. Their use of Christmas Santas were perfect.
This year the Villain just didn’t seem to click as well as she could have.
Sure, she looked good and acted her heart out but, I can’t shake the feeling I was watching Wild Wild West or listening to a certain Kevin Smith story about Jon Peters regarding spiders.
Great use of Torchwood which may explain where the missing Torchwood station went to.
But, the entire idea of a spider coming to Earth to resurrect some of her friends down at the center of the Earth to over run said Earth was, eh. It felt like, let’s make this year bigger amd better.
Oh well.
Can’t win them all.
I think from the Season 3 teaser that Martha Jones will be a great companion and foil for the Doctor.
Now this story about a possible departure by Tennant during the 4th season, season 3 being filmed now, is almost like clockwork. Eccelston’s and Piper’s rumored quiting turned out to be true in the end. I don’t think Tennant shouldn’t worry about type casting.
Tom Baker did seven years of Who before going onto other things and look where the seven years got him, the most recognizable face of Who, ever, imho.
Also, for those on the torrents might want to track down a recent showing of On Show about the production designer of Doctor Who and Torchwood narrated by Tom Baker.
According to Outpost Gallifrey, Doctor Who Season 3 will be arriving in the US sometime in the Summer of 2007.
One also has to wonder if they did this so they can actually get the Region 1 Season 3 DVD out there for Christmas unlike Season 2 that’s coming out in a few weeks.
Season 2 DVD is worth it just for the David Tennant Video Diary that covers all of Season 2. Really weird seeing Madame de Pompadour with a Darlek.
Hopefully they’ll give a Camcorder to Freema Agyeman for her own video Diary for Season 3.
Personally, I want the Region 2 DVD Set to come encased in this Cyberman Head.
Episode 11 of Torchwood is this Sunday.
The Runaway Bride debuts this Monday.
Episodes 12-13 of Torchwood shown sometime on New Years Day-ish.
It should be noted that Zudeo, the new Azureus Application that signed with BBC to distribute Doctor Who Programming in 2007 is both Windoze and Mac Compatible. It’s UI is pretty spiffy.
If Zudeo manages to get the second season of The IT Crowd (a must watch, btw) in a good format with a decent price I might just follow up that purchase with Season 3 of Who.
Unlike my Serenity/Firefly 2005 NaNoWrimo Novel entitled Leaves on the Wind, I won’t be posting the rest of BMB online.
I’m going to be finishing the novel and will be sending out query letters once I’m ready. One of my co-workers whose read one of my other scripts thought the title was disgusting (in a good way), so that’s a step in the right direction right there.
With NaNoWrimo behind us it’s time to refocus on Welcome to Gehma.
I spent sometime during the last few NaNoWrimo Write Ins going over my 2004 NaNoWrimo Novel called Gehma: A Rider’s Tale that Welcome to Gehma is based on and I’ve been hacking away at the overview chapters and adding more to the already 55k word count.
Looking back on the novel there is no hook in the beginning of the novel, it’s a lot of cold, info dumping that doesn’t need to be there. Granted some of it needs to be there to explain things but taking a page from my screenwriting misadventures: Hook them in the first 5 pages.
I think once I get some of the info dump narrowed down I have a scene that should hook people.
I’ll be seeing Paul C today, if he has any Gehma images I can pass along you will be the first to know.
Also, any of the inner circle of friends/editors feel like giving the first thirty-nine pages a once over with their red pens are more than welcome to tear it apart.
PS: For those Whovians in the USA: The Doctor Who Original Television Soundtrack CD is worth the money.
