dollhouse-and-firefly

Red Right Hand (a good blog to bookmark, btw), in a recent post compares the Firefly situation we all endured to Joss Whedon’s next project with the lovely Eliza Dushku called Dollhouse.

Essentially, it boils down to this: the fans have to watch Dollhouse or else. And, I whole heartily agree with him.

In this new age, post-Writer’s Strike/Internet Content Download/Channel’s itchy trigger fingers, shows will need to be watched live instead of on DVR/Tivo/Torrent.

Jericho came back from the dead only because of the fans went “Nuts!” to CBS and we got a 7 episode second season out of it.

And, while it nicely done and didn’t have the soapy suds of the first half of the first season, ultimately CBS nuked the series in the end just as it was getting good.

This seven episode deal along with LOST’s shorten season of sixteen brings into sharp focus why BBC only does twelve to thirteen episodes. Cutting all the fat and getting to the plot is great way to keep the audience’s attention.

If Jericho manages to rises up on Sci-Fi Channel like Lazarus, we should ourselves extremely lucky.

Personally, I blame the 10pm timeslot. 10pm is meant for two things in my mind: Dateline and 48 Hours.

(Yes, ABC, I’m glaring in your general direction for putting LOST at 10pm. Grey’s Anatomy and Errrrrrr can go head to head with each other for all I care. Some of us have to work Friday mornings, ya know!)

Here’s hoping the Dollhouse gets a good timeslot.

By way of kradical who found it on Whedonesque who saw it through Digital Bits.

Serenity 2 Disc DVD coming soon!

Yes, fanlings, there is going to be a 2 disc ‘Special Edition’ released this summer. You know why? ‘Cause the 1 disc ‘Normal Edition’ has sold so well — so maybe a little self-back-patting is in order for you guys. Way to keep her in the air.

It’s too early to be sure what the Special Edition will contain, but here are some things we’re going for:

NEW KEY ART.

Cast commentary — assuming I can get a decent number of them in one room. They’re very busy people, I’m happy to say.

NEW KEY ART.

The region 4 goodies, obviously.

The Tam Sessions.

KEY NEW ART.

New Yub Yub, and Greedo shoots first. So does that kid outside the trading station, the pilot who destroyed Haven, and Kaylee. And Richard Dreyfuss goes INSIDE the mothership.

KEW RAT YEN.

An alternate ending, if you turn it off early.

Proof of the existence of a benevolent higher power — uh, I mean, new key art.

Mice.

And honestly, what more do you want? Don’t answer that, I already know and it’s unseemly. But I’m pretty excited here. Back to work, -j.

Take my Yub,
Take Yub Yub,
Yub Yub tak the Yub from Meee…dichlorians….

Just so long as the unedited shot of Morena Baccarin and Sean Maher coming out to greet the fans at the first Boston Sneak Preview where myself, Mike B, Mateo and Chris C in the front row shows up in the extras, I will be a happy man.

Firefly MMO

Thanks to Mike B for finding this:

Oh. This. Could. Rock.

Firefly in HD. Browncoats!

For those who haven’t seen Firefly and have seen Serenity either on DVD or on HBO, here’s your chance to see it the way all TV is meant to be in High Definition!

Tonight, on Universal High Definition Channel they are showing Firefly in order and in High Def.

If you like Joss Whedon, if you like Science Fiction, if you like no aliens, no phasers and no Captains bedding alien women every episode, if you like three dimensional characters and no sound in space.

Then Firefly is for you. See what everyone was talking about when FOX canned it too soon.

Set your Season Pass or your DVR to Shiny!

You’ll enjoy it, trust me.

Finally, after going to Best Buy and Newbury Comics, tracked down Wonderfalls DVD at Borders.

And, got Firefly Official Companion, Vol. 1! Woo hoo!

Slight down side is waiting for Vol. 2 until Spring 2007.

Doh.

Definately need to get one or two of these.

For those of us who didn’t get the Browncoat Email…

Browncoats,

We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty!

Serenity was the #1 DVD upon its release! This was a huge success that would not have happened without the support and dedication of The Browncoats. On behalf or Universal, I would like to thank you all for everything you have done to promote Serenity.

It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that on January 6, 2006, The Browncoats will shut down. We have had some wonderful times over these 19 months: met people from around the world, had interesting discussions about Serenity and every topic under the sun on the message boards, had lots of laughs (“I can’t believe Shepherd Book is Mal’s father *spoiler* ” was a personal favorite), and seen some sadness as well. There really has never been a community quite like The Browncoats.

Of course this is not the end of The Browncoats; there are many other sites that will allow the community to continue on. If you do get nostalgic for these boards, check out http://serenitymovie.org, a forum similar in look to this one set up by Gossi - one of our own.

All of your orders from the store are being processed, and will be shipped over the next 2 weeks. If you haven’t placed an order, please do so - your points aren’t going to be of any use once the site closes down. Remember we are at http://browncoats.serenitymovie.com.

Once again a huge thank you from everyone here!
