Trekked up into Chelsea today for wardrobe fitting for an extra spot in a scene in a wedding for the end of this week.

According the other extras so long as the tax credits are approved Weymouth Airbase and South Plymouth may be the next spots for building a Movie Studio.

That brings the possible count to:

MA: 2. RI: 1. CT: 1.

All of them dependent on getting tax credit approved. If all that happens. Wow.

Too bad, Quonset is just sitting there doing nothing, too…

With Tobey Mcguire producing and possibly staring in a live action Robotech movie, looks like the next tent pole movie has a director and leads.

A live action Akira movie has been rumored for a while now until recently when it was announced Ruairi Robinson will direct, Leonardo DiCaprio will produce and star as Kaneda and and Joseph Gordon Levitt as Tetsuo.

Gary Whitta writer of the comic book Death Jr. and writer of Book of Eli has been tapped for the writing chores.

Due to the size of the original manga (all 6 volumes) the live action movie is going to be split up into two movies. Why do I foresee this going the extra mile and become a trilogy? 

A live action Akira would be mind blowing. The manga and the anime still hold up after twenty years.

Honestly, I don’t understand why the location of the story being moved from Tokyo to a “New Manhattan”.

If it’s for believability sake or to get out of the art house flick category then why alienate the fans? The Firefly universe showed Anglos talking Chinese and it sounded believable enough.

So, the question has the be asked: If Robotech and Akira see the light of day is a live action Appleseed or Ghost In The Shell next?

With so many re-imaginings of old 80’s shows as of late. Knight Rider (2008) falls between the recent re-imaginings of Battlestar Galactica and Bionic Woman

At the height of the super vehicle shows of the 80’s, Knight Rider was the one show everyone remembers. Street Hawk and Airwolf a close second.

Knight Rider went through several rival shows, Team Knight Rider, Knight Rider 2000 and Knight Rider 2010. All of which with the exception of KR2000 had David Hasselholf and the original actors.

For those who scoff at the fact of that the Knight Industries Three Thousand is now a Ford Mustang instead of Trans Am, take off the rose trim glasses you got on, please.

First up, I don’t know how much the writer’s strike hurt this movie but I’ve never seen a one hour plot stretched out so thin in my life.

The backstory for creating another KITT worked in my opinion and the garage sequence, brief as it was, with remnants of the Knight Industry Two Thousand was a nice homage.

Val Kilmer replacing Will Arnet as KITT at the last moment due to contracts dispute I think hurt this most of all due to the fact, it sounded like a Voice Over and not really coming from the car itself. At least when William Daniels spoke it sounded like he was speaking through the car speakers.

As for the rest of the actors and plot, eh. The plot already being knee capped, the actors did their best. The standard: Crooks stealing technology to fuel a war is about as old hat as the Nintendo 8-Bit Console in my closet.

The villains were boring. The heroes were nice to look at and the car worked when the MTV-style editing focused on it long enough and the bullet time stopped.

The Hoff passing the torch to his son was ok. Would have been better if he drove off in the Knight Industries Two Thousand but with the amount of horrible commercials they shoved down our throats how could you get any decent cameos in there?

I give them props at the end of the movie with KITT driving out of the back of a C-130, sure it’s not the Semi but hey, the thought was there.

With Bionic Woman canceled maybe we’ll be seeing Knight Rider next season…

Nice to see they’re local at least.
