300 Review…(spoilers)

Go. See. This. Film.

Yes. I. Said. Film.

Enough with the periods, let’s get down to business.

First, I will say I didn’t read the Graphic Novel the film is based on and my memories of History Class are vague enough to allow of inaccuracies throughout the film.

Still. This film rocked. It is Lawrence of Arabia for the under 30 crowd. And, will probably become the one film the Military will use to get their recruits spirits up.

300 is about 300 Spartans that faced down incredible odds when a would be “God” Xerxes played by Paulo from LOST wished to extend his Empire to include Sparta.

Upon hearing this King Leonidas played by Gerard Butler is none too pleased and does what any other King would do in his situation, takes 300 of his body guards for a walk down to the sea shore for some good ole fashion misbehavin’.

The movie theater was packed with roughly 300 people many of them over 20 and I saw a few of the old comic book store crew behind us in line.

The organizers through out t-shirts with labels like I like Greek Boys, the couple next to us grabbed it, opened it and the boyfriend couldn’t get it out of his hands fast enough, the girlfriend grabbed it gleefully and toyed with him about wearing it to work tomorrow.

The movie is bloody, gory and loud. Most of this movie is blue or green screened but you really can’t tell because it looks well done. There aren’t any moments when the cast has the deer in headlights look that Gwen Paltrow did in Sky Captain or a few moments in Sin City.

And when the Rhinos and Elephants showed up it made the film even better.

The music is no Lawrence of Arabia or Gladiator but this film is not taking its cue from those two films.

Instead, it takes it’s cue from the best parts of Gladiator and the best parts of Rome and even though most of the battle takes place away from Sparta the political backstabbing is just as bloody as it is on the battlefield.

In the end, the film is worth seeing in the Movie Theater or IMAX Theater.

Now, what we all to do now is put our hands together and think happy thoughts about 300 director Zack Snyder getting Watchmen to the screen.
